Another South African comedian joins The Daily Show

South African comedian Loyiso Madinga has joined Trevor Noah on the Daily Show as the show’s African correspondent.

Loyiso made his debut on the popular American base show on Thursday, January 11, 2018. His first field report was from the South African ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) elective conference which took place in December.

The 31-year-old comedian said he was excited to be a voice for local satire and help break stereotypical perceptions of the continent.

“This isn’t even about me. This is about SA comedy and comedy in Africa. We’re all grinding so damn hard to make this thing work and this only happened because the hard work, love and dedication we all put into this is obvious to the world,” Loyiso said.

Loyiso left his career in advertising to follow his passion for comedy. In 2012 he won the Graça Comedy Showdown and in 2014 the Savanna Newcomer Award.

He was also part of the two-time Emmy nominated satire show “Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola” where he wrote and performed. He also appeared in “Bantu Hour”, a comedy show hosted by local comedian Kagiso Lediga. Internationally he has represented South Africa at the Montreaux Comedy Festival in Switzerland and Busan Comedy Festival in Korea.
Loyiso joins Ugandan-born South African comedian David Kibuuka who is one of the contributing writers on the show. David used to be a field reporter for the “Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola”; he joined the show soon after Trevor became the host.

As the show’s host, Trevor said this about the new addition, “As wild as Donald Trump is for America, many countries around the world have Trumps of their own and since The Daily Show is in many countries, we thought, why not give each country a chance to show off their stable geniuses?”
Loyiso did a great job on his first appearance on the show and people took to social media to show him some love.
