Wits crowned Absa Premiership Champions

Bidvest Wits were crowned 2016/17 Absa Premiership champions with one game remaining after a 2-0 win over Polokwane City at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday.

The win for The Student meant that they were going to be champions depending if Mamelodi Sundowns draw or lose against Maritzburg United.

The Clever Boys netted an early goal that gave them an initial advantage over high flying Polokwane City. James Keene produced a fantastic header past George Chigova. Daine Klate who now has six PSL league winners’ medals, produced a stunner past the defence into the corner of the net.

In the other PSL games Sundowns came from 2-0 down to level matters against United at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kaizer Chiefs suffered another blow in the hands of Dikwena they remain in the 5th position. Cape Town City edged Golden Arrows by a goal to nil. The battle to be in the top 8 meant that it will be decided on the last game as Orlando Pirates drew with Ajax Cape Town at Orlando Stadium.Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars played to a goalless draw

The relegation zone heated Yesterday as Chippa United stunned Stuart Baxter’s man by whopping of 3-0. Baroka and Highlands Park played to a goalless draw. Bakgaga are on 25 points from 29 games and will have to play Free State Stars in their last Premiership game, the results leaves them on the relegation zone with Highlands who will face Sundowns in their last game at Makhulong Stadium.
